I like the carbonation, not so much the sweetness. What I do is buy carbonated water with no sodium or sugar. When I'm feeling reckless I'll put a twist of lemon or lime in it. Works great for me.

Most American soft drinks gave up on including sugar in their recipes long ago. What they replaced it with - high fructose corn syrup - is even worse than sugar. To make matters worse, HFC is now adulterating SO many things besides soft drinks.

Sugar and HFCS are actually the same nutritionally and are equally harmful. When you see "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" on a food label, that is pure marketing and nothing else.

One is made from sugar cane, highly refined and turned into granules.

The other is made from corn, highly refined and left as a syrup.

Soft drink companies went with the HFCS for economic reasons and nothing else.

Both sugar and HFCS are 50% glucose and 50% fructose.

The body cannot metabolize these substances in the amounts people consume on an extended basis without something breaking down. This is evident with the rise in obesity and Type 2 diabetes.

Gram for gram, HFCS 55 has slightly higher levels of fructose than regular sugar. The difference is very small and not particularly relevant from a health perspective.

Yes. I cut way down a year ago (replaced the coke I was drinking with ice tea) and in May I had my last one. I was just drinking ice tea until a few days ago but I cut that out as well so I could be caffeine free. Now its just water which is great. The 1st few days with no coke I had a sugar withdrawal headache. The 1st day of no caffeine I had a headache but its gone now. I had cut back on the tea the week before I quit entirely to ease into having no caffeine. I feel a ton better not having soda.

I quit any drinks they sell years ago. Interestingly, after you quit for long time and then are in no choice situation, as that's the only fluid available - you suddenly realize, how synthetically artificially they taste.
Water and lemon juice in it. Best mix. Dissolved my kidney stone and keeps your body basic.

i used to dirnk soda like crazy maybe in the highschool days , but ever since its very rare , coffee , mikeys hard lemonade and water are my main drinks
