The caps on my other bottled extracts don't stick, but the one on the vanilla always requires tools to unscrew it. What gives?

Oh, the tortured life we lead...

I imagine it's the oils from the vanilla beans, if you have true vanilla extract. But that's a guess.

This morning while making cookies, I was also struck with hormone fluctuations. I'm doing a little work on the house so the toolbox is sitting within sight. When that lid stuck, I came thisclose to getting the hammer and breaking the dang bottle to get my vanilla.

My lids stick hard. First I used a rubber thing that gives a good grip. Then I used that thing with a pair of pliers. Still didn't come off. Finally gave it a few softish whacks with the handle of a butter knife and it finally came loose. Bottle intact.

When closing, make sure to wipe around the bottle top...maybe that will prevent another sticking episode.

^^^ this and put a piece of saran wrap on the top of the bottle then screw on the cap. I do it with all the sticky stuff.

Many vanilla extracts contain sugar, so of course in that case you will get stickiness around the lid.

I do hate trying with my older hands to open a small, stuck screw on lid. I run one of those briefly under hot water to loosen.
