Seems like an interesting trick. Though I know with my mom, it would be "you're wasting corn" when you cut off that end. She'd consider my time shucking and silking much less valuable than those extra kernels.

My husband recently passed but this is how he did his corn for about the last 5 yrs of his life. I started doing mine that way also (I don't eat as much corn on the cob as he did). It generally comes out perfect for me every time.

I've seen those videos before and I don't get the whole cutting the end off thing. I just put the corn in the microwave unshucked and just shuck it when it comes out. I hold the corn with a towel wrapped around it and shuck as normal and the silk comes away with the husk. I've done that since microwaves came out decades ago. It never occurred to me to make a video of it, LOL!

Making corn relish tomorrow will definitely use this hack to shuck 2 dozen ears of corn.

I suppose a little extra protein wouldn't hurt, but just the thought. Ugh!

Me, too. No point in cutting off the end.

It tastes better this way...boiling/steaming just waters it down somehow.

I've been doing it this way for 7+ years.

This same 'hack' works really great on garlic, too. 30 sec in the microwave and the skins fall off in your hands.
