I think it was rude. As a guest I take only what I can eat. I only take leftovers when I am told to take some home.

To me, that is a rude as they come. Many of us are more than willing to share left overs, but for anyone to ask for some is awful. It is especially rude when she didn't even eat much at your place. Shame on her. I don't think I would rush to invite her back.

I would not have spoken up, I would have sat there just like the OP did. To speak up, to me, would have been as rude or almost.

Not rude as we always give our guests food to take home with them. However, usually we are the ones filling the containers. Our guests are not just gonna help themselves. That part is rude.

Of course it is. This isn't a restaurant we're talking about, it's someone's home. If she couldn't finish what was on her plate, then she should have asked (or taken, if it was serve yourself style) for a smaller portion.
