Too bad so much of it is unhealthy, especially the traditional dishes in Texas. I was raised on Tex Mex (which is called "Mexican food" in Texas).
But I really like some of the healthier dishes also. Great flavors and combinations of ingredients. I like pretty much everything that is made with the traditional ingredients. So it's hard for me to narrow down my favorites. I like rice, beans, tortillas, beef, chicken, cheese. etc. And I usually like to cover everything lightly with a salsa.
although my sisters and most of my friends like Mexican food...i do not. none of it.
when we go out for Mexican, they say "take a bite or mine" or "try this".
it is not bad, it is just not good enough for me to pay for.
so...i order and salad and drink Mexican beer...which is good.
I love carnitas, which is grilled/pan fried pork chunks. Love them in a burrito, tacos, or in a plate with refried beans, rice, corn tortillas and salsa. I also love taquitos and carne asada burritos and tacos.
Pretty much everything on the menu for me too. Lately I've been on a Sopes kick, had some at Grandma's Kitchen in Walla Walla that were so light and full of flavor that I'm considering a road trip from Colorado to go back and get more.
