Reminds me now of something I got from the As a Seen On TV section at one of the stores I go to.
It was a tin (?) pan that you would put a flour tortilla in, let it bake. Then you could use the form to maybe put a chip dip into. See if I can bring it up....

Just think of tortillas as the Mexican version of Bread.

Except that they have the bread version of bread in Mexico, too.

In fact, sandwiches on bolillos and cemitas are quite common in Mexico and really delicious. I wish the wave of the street taco trend would clear out to make room for some Mexican sandwiches.
