Does it bother anyone else when they take a classic and invent endless variations on the theme? Like Pumpkin Spice Oreos when plain old chocolate and vanilla worked for a generation or more. Or Werther's Originals; now we have soft and chewy, chocolate-filled, etc. "Originals" which, of course, aren't. Sometimes I suspect the employees who dream up the more outlandish versions of these timeless favorites are amazed that people actually buy and eat them, often simply because they're "new." For some reason, it irritates me. I wish they'd leave my food memories intact.

It doesn't bother me too much because most of these products I don't buy anymore especially Oreos. I am not into new revamped foods, leave the originals alone.

They wouldn't make 'em if people didn't buy 'em.

If the original is still available, I don't see the problem?

If you don't like the new versions, don't buy 'em.

I pretty much don't buy new versions of things, they seem to disappoint more often than not.

I really don't see why it bothers you or hurts your "food memories". If companies replaced the original products I could understand your point. Companies need to keep adding new products to draw attention to their brands or they end up losing market share, that's just how it is.

I personally like when companies add varieties of products I enjoy. I'll try them and sometimes I like them better than the original, other times I don't like them, and sometimes I like them as an alternative to the original. Sometimes I'm in the mood for pepperoni pizza, other times I grab a Hawaiian.

Food would become pretty boring if no one ever tried different things even with a tried and true product.

In your world there would be no peanut butter cups. Or chocolate marshmallow ice cream. Or cherry cokes.

I rarely buy new versions of old stand byes, but it doesn't bother me if others do. Time moves on and so do peoples taste buds. I would hate to think we still only eat what our grandparents ate for instance.

Granted, but don't think think the number of new variations is exploding these days? Much more so than in my lifetime previously. It's a growing trend, and one I don't like. But then, I'm a purist.
