I'm sure that there will be debates on whether a discussion on Burger King should be posted in a Food forum!

Quote:
Burger King is using its competitor’s own restaurants as part of a devious new promotion.

Their “Whopper Detour” deal is giving customers Whoppers for a penny. But, and here comes the sneaky part, customers have to be using the Burger King app to order – and be at a McDonald’s.

Business Insider reports that the Burger King app will recognize the user’s location as being at a McDonalds and unlock the penny deal. After you place an order for the Whopper, the app will “detour” you away from McDonald’s and navigate you to the closest Burger King so you can pick it up.

The Burger King twitter account puts it like this:

Order a Whopper for a penny only “at” McDonald’s with the BK app. yes, you read that right. drive near a McDonald’s and use the BK app. no need to go to their drive-thru. get yours before December 12th.

The deal starts Tuesday and runs through Dec. 12th. For more information see the Burger King website.

I guess one could buy the $ drink at McD's and then get a 1¢ whopper and eat lunch for a $1.01 as long as the two burger joints are close to each other. I have both blocks apart.

Yes, or you could have a Whopper with fries that are actually good.

Can’t wait to see the retaliatory move that is sure to come from McD.

That's pretty goddamned cold.

I can imagine the ad guy who came up with this sitting in a vacant boardroom at night with Al Pacino as Lucifer chuckling over his shoulder.

From what I have read, a lot of customers have had trouble getting the app to work, so ended up eating at McDonalds.

So it sounds like a bit of an own goal.

I was thinking that could happen. Some people might not get the app to work, while others might get to McDonalds and decide to just eat there instead. I can think of 3 Burger Kings in the area, none of them are that close to a McDonald's. But even if they were, you still have to pull into McDonald's parking lot to order on the Burger King app. If I have to stop at a ff place before going to another one, I'm just eating at the first place.

Or some might go on a friday, get their free McDonald's fries with a $1 drink, and then heading on to bk for a 1 cent whopper. In which case, McDonald's is still getting more money.
