If you always eat your own home baked bread, do you bake it daily, or every 2-3 days, or bake a big one or a lot and freeze them to keep for weeks?

Well it rarely lasts long enough to keep!

But we live in a somewhat humid climate and our bread has no preservatives. It can survive about 3-4 days on the counter before it begins to grow some bread mold. It tastes somewhat stale by that time too, even in a bag. A fridge prolongs that but it makes more sense to bake frequently and not try to freeze or store it. Fresh is best.

I use a fridge dough that I store in a big Rubbermaid and tear off a chunk to bake every day or two we need homemade bread. “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day” is my source for that particular method and recipe.

We use it up in 2 days usually. I keep it in the cupboard in a plastic bag and it stays fresh. I haven't tried freezing it. I make salt free bread because of my husbands high blood pressure.

I will bake on weekends and freeze a couple of loaves. Each unfrozen loaf lasts 2-4 days before we finish it or it goes moldy.

I use a bread machine to make the dough, and it only makes enough for one loaf at a time. We used to finish it in about 3 days and so mold was never a problem. Now, my kids are older and have branched out--they often prefer Trader Joe's cracked wheat sourdough, for instance, and we don't eat as many sandwiches as we used to. So now when I make a loaf I leave it out for about a day so we can enjoy as much as we want fresh. Then I slice the rest, close it tightly in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer. Frozen bread is still pretty good when it's thawed, especially for making toast.

I used to bake a lot of bread. Anything that wouldn't be eaten within 2-3 days would be frozen. That's for oven baked bread. For some reason, bread made in a bread machine started to taste stale the next day.

DH baked it occasionally. Makes a bunch of baguettes and freezes them individually.

I bake sporadically. The bread stays out for a couple of days and if it isn't used up by then the rest goes into the refrigerator. After that if we aren't eating it I make croutons out of it and put them in small freezer bags and freeze.

I bake a loaf of sourdough bread about every 10 days, As soon as it cools, I freeze half of the loaf and keep the other half in the frig and slice it as needed. I'm going to slice it in a few minutes and have a banana and mayo sandwich for lunch.
