So we usually order from these services quite often but being a delivery, I usually justify 3-5 dollar tips is enough. Bad weather, I usually give $8 - $10 I mean when I eat out I tip based off service when it comes to a waiter, so usually 20 - 30%
I feel it is no different ordering pizza vs ordering delivery from grubhub. I am not sure though, maybe grubhub and these places are a bit different?
what do you guys usually tip? Am I wrong for tipping grub hub like a normal delivery person?
Nothing. I don't use these services because most food places are less than 10 minutes from my house. Most of the places we go to have free delivery anyway and I only use them if I don't feel like going out so it's rare.
It's just money. Spend whatever you're comfortable with. Me, I couldn't bring myself to spend the kind of money needed to have food delivered, just beyond my budget (same goes for buying food someone else prepared). I'll never have to worry about the ethics of tipping in this situation because I'll never use it. But I understand that for people who make $100k salaries, dropping $50 on a meal is on par with me spending $15. Make $200k and a $50/meal is equivalent to me spending $7.... getting close to inconsequential. Different perspectives...
So, OP... if you're living the urban life, with the high paying job, and can afford to order out, pay for delivery and tip all while staying within your comfort range dollar-wise, do what makes you feel best. Not like those drivers are getting more than minimum wage (according to what I can find online).
For the life of me I never understand why people for whom the OP doesn't apply go to the effort to post about how the issue does't affect them. If you don't order takeout, scroll on past.
