Has anyone ever brought home a milk shake from a restaurant and put it in the freezer? Did it do well? If it helps, the milk shake comes from Steak N Shake and is made with real, old-fashioned ice cream - not the newer soft serve ice cream.

Thank you.

Drink it when you get it, freezing it will not be good. Making the shake itself changes the consistency of the ice cream.

I was afraid of that. I'm so full of a big lunch that I was hoping I could save it. They do make good milk shakes. Thank you.

Freezing milkshakes is awesome and after just some seconds in a microwave they are back to yummy! In fact, you used to be able to buy them in the supermarket exactly like that.

It will be fine. You'll have to either let it warm up and partially thaw, or eat it like it is ice cream.

Hmmm? You are right. I'd totally forgotten that. It didn't last long, though. Those were good. Edy's - I think it was - said to add (forget how much) milk and whip it but I didn't. Just ate it straight as it came.

They say don't freeze milk but my friend does all the time. They say don't freeze yogurt but I have done that. The new texture is a bit icy but it tastes fine. Cheese? Yes to that.

Still, what North Beach Person says does make sense. Freezing does change texture on almost anything you freeze. I went ahead and feasted on mine last night. Maybe I'll try freezing some next time.

Anyway, thank you both. When I have to courage to try it, I'll let you know how it does.

Thank you.
Yes. Added ingredients sometimes give a "nicer" freeze that's still retrievable with a spoon. Plain vanilla freezes the hardest and will bend even a metal spoon if fully frozen.

Edy's - the grocery store ones - were so very smooth. Of course, there is always the question of which kind of ice cream they used. Steak N Shake uses "real" ice cream, not soft serve. :-)
