We do 90% of grocery shopping at Sav-A-Lot, where national brands make up about 10% of their stock, if that. The rest are store brands.
The other 10% we do at either Sweetbay or Publix...both within six blocks of home.

For quality, variety, and cleanliness, Publix cannot be beat. The staff is also very friendly too.

There may be more but those are the only one's I have discovered here in the 6 months since I arrived.

I was gonna say we have the same ones with the exception of Sprouts, but it turns out one sprouted on the NW side and I didn't even know. What I don't understand is why they're sprouting more in TX and CA and not here... Do you like them?
Oh, we also have Sunflower Farmers Markets - Home Page. Don't you? You forgot Albertson's. Oh, there are also those Food City. I think they're owned by Basha's, but I'm not sure.

In Abilene, TX --
United (a north/west Texas-southern Oklahoma chain)
HEB (a Texas chain)
Lawrence Brothers (locally owned, just a few stores in the area)
Albertson's
Save-A-Lot
Super Walmart
Sam's Club
I avoid Walmart and just shop occasionally at Sam's for very specific items. I used to shop quite frequently at Albertson's but they closed their location closest to me and I'm not willing to drive all the way across town to their other store.
I like patronizing the local and semi-local stores. United has INCREDIBLY fresh produce at good prices and Lawrence Brothers has very nice meats. For pantry staples, I stock up at Save-A-Lot once per month.

Within a 10 minute drive from my suburb just north of Dallas, I could go to:
1. Albertsons (there are hardly any left)
2. Tom Thumb
3. Kroger
4. Wal-Mart
5. Target
6. Mi Super
7. Fiesta Mart
8. Michoacana (sp?)
9. Whole Foods
10. Central Market
Wow, Dallas really is the shopping capital.. when it comes to everything!
