It's also interesting how some of the stores will set up shop farther from their corporate offices, for example Shop-Rite is big in a few states here in the 'northeast' while their 'hub' is located in NJ but they don't seem to go beyond those states. Same with Food Lion in NC etc.
Yet places like Price Chopper seem to branch further out,I thought they were based in NY state or Ontario yet they have stores in KC.

In Atlanta, the near suburbs, and the extended marketing area we have:
1. Kroger
2. Publix
3. Ingle's (mostly in the outer areas, many closer in locations closed1)
4. Walmart Supercenter
3. Super Target
4. Food Depot (local, mostly in Cobb and Spalding Counties)
5. Wayfield Foods (local, mostly in Fulton and DeKalb counties)
6. Whole Foods
7. Harry's Farmer's Market (owned by Whole Foods)
8. Earth Fare (actually over in Athens)
9. Trader Joe's
10. Aldi
11. Sav-A-Lot
12. Fresh Market
13. Piggly Wiggly (operated by at least 3 different groups, including some former Bi-Lo/Bruno's locations and 2 different independent franchise-holders)
14. Food Lion (only a handful, all far from the city proper)
15. Life Grocery (a local natural foods market)
16. DeKalb Farmer's Market
17. Scads of other independent natural'health foods places, Caribbean, Latin, Asian, farmer's, and other markets, from small stores to supermarket-size and format.
18. Costco
19. BJ's Club
20. Sam's Club
21. (Tri County) Quality Foods
22. Happy Herman's (very local deli and grocery)
A few that have bitten the dust over the years:
1. Big Star/Colonial Stores (including Richway Foods)...they were a huge player
2. Big Apple/Food Giant...they were also a widespread chain
3. Cub Foods
4. A & P (including FutureStore)
5. Winn-Dixie (and Save Rite)which at one time were huge here
6. Harris-Teeter (they did a store swap with Kroger)
7. Bruno's and FoodMax (a few did survive but converted to Piggly Wiggly)
8. Albertson's (only one store actually, a bit north of Atlanta, which was an acquisition from Bruno's/Foodmax)
9. Bi-Lo (most closed, the few remaining were changed to Southern Family Foods, and some later to Piggly Wiggly)...the ones not sold or closed remain with the Mauldin, South Carolina-based Bi-Lo
10..Super K-Mart...I think there was only one...in Gainesville
11. American Fare...later rebadged as K-Mart and Cub Foods

We have a new store that recently opened up, Winco. Its really a nice place, otherwise, we normally do Stater Bros. We do have an Albertsons and Vons not far from us but none of us like those etores where you have to have one of those 'commie cards' to get a decent price.

Sometime last year, Albertson's stopped using their "commie cards" to give you discounts. You'll get the discounts without the card.

Why would they be considered commie cards?
