Canola. Canola may refer to an edible and industrial oil (also known as canola oil) produced from the seed of any of several cultivars of rapeseed bred to be low in erucic acid from the Brassicaceae family of plants, or to the plants themselves, namely cultivars of Brassica napus L., Brassica rapa subsp.
Compliments of Wikipedia.

Usually grown in Canada and the northern tier of North Dakota.
No such thing as canola, its a made up word, a combination of Canada and oil.
The source is rapeseed, I believe its poisonous unless processed at high temps.
I like olive oil....and buttah!

However, both USDA and Canada keep track of how many acres of ....canola.... are planted /harvested each year.
Do an internet search for...........canola acreage...
when frying try to use a light colored oil--like corn
when making a salad, try to use a dark colored oil like olive. t gives a rish flavor to the food when eating it raw.
This. One of my 20 something kids has berated me for using canola oil for anything and for having Wesson oil - which is what my mom used - in my house.
I believe they came up with the name Canola because well... rapeseed oil just doesn't sound too appealing.
"Can someone pass me the rape oil please?"

The main difference between oils is cooking or smoke point when the oil burns up.
Oils like peanut and canola is great for frying. Olive oil is good for sautes and light cooking. Extra virgin olive oil is not good for sautes unless you use a heavy amount to avoid drying.
If you're looking for weight loss, it doesn't matter what oil. Less is better, all oils have calories regardless how healthy it is.
