Well it is the best time of the year for cooking I think; yep, getting hot,but what about all those fresh veggies and now the fruits that can be found at farmers markets or road side stands, as well as the grocery store. Yesterday we got beets, turnips, huge red onions with the green stems still on them, beautiful broccoli nd a dozen brown eggs; all for $9.00.
I had to look it up, so for anybody else wondering, it's Filipino rice whiskey! Sounds like a big project.
Nita, I love eating this time of year too, but I don't have any Farmers markers nearly as inexpensive as you're describing!
I know most are really pricey, but the little one we use keeps the prices down. The selection isn't huge and there are only 1/2 dozen vendors but they are there faithfully every Sat morning starting about 8am. we have many other large markets with expensive produce. It makes it hard, sometimes to justify the prices.
We have only been married for 38 years, so we're on shaky ground.
I love creamy stuff...casseroles and sauces.
Hubby came with a prejudice against anything with a white sauce..of course he is WRONG. This goes without saying.
When we were dating, I made him my very best dish...Ham tetrazzini. He pretended to like it, even though it was white.
Of course, most of the time I make him whatever he wants.
I'm starting to get a bit miffed. When will he stop professing to hate something, when he eats a lot of it and it is awesome? At the same time, he is always very appreciative of everything I make for him.
Anyway, my point is, does your significant other ever complain about your cooking? If so, do you just knuckle under, or do you make things you like too?
Have you considered counseling? Food counseling I mean? I'm the significant other in our house and I complain about everything. I thought that was my job.
I do like most things my wife cooks even when I complain.
My husband loves to complain about food. I try to accommodate him, but my daughter and I have allergies that have to be accommodated first, so sometimes his wishes are completely ignored.
I don't know if I would enjoy cooking for someone that picky. Seriously, I would probably have to think long and hard about marrying someone who isn't a bit adventurous, with so much of food prejudice. I am a foodie, and it would be a serious red flag. He would have to be a really great guy otherwise, and still... food and sex are one of the most important things in happy life...
I know, I know... I could cook just what he loves, if fusions is impossible. I could... maybe, but ... probably not.
I love creamy and I love casseroles - those Stouffer's vegetable lasagnas come to mind. I actually prefer them to the meat/tomato sauce version. No husband to worry about pleasing, but the kids can be brutal about anything to do with vegetables.
If he's eating your food then that's a good sign. I suppose maybe he's just frontin' that he doesn't like your tetrazzini!
If married folks are having spats over food, they should do their own thing......and there does not have to be bad blood because of the "separation". Just like if a couple sleeps in the same room and, for one reason or another(snoring), it works-out poorly......have separate rooms and still be friends!!!!!!!!!
