All that said, we're not buying from national chains right now. We're taking our dollars to the local, independent restaurants. The big guys have the resources to survive this; those that don't survive were going down the tubes before Covid.
Many of the FF locations are franchised, where your neighbors put their life savings into a store. Yes, KFC/Yum and the other corporate companies will survive, but your local location may not.
In my little town everyone is excited about the impending openings of Chipotle, Mod Pizza, In &Out Burger and the return of KFC.
Mod Pizza: Never had it.
Chipotle: It's ok. I wouldn't get too excited about it. They use some decent ingredients as compared to a lot of fast food, though they are slightly more upscale and classified as fast casual. Their burritos and bowls are generally high in sodium. Also, a bowl is not authentically Mexican.
In & Out Burger: The burger is tasty. The buns have soybean oil in them. I avoid all soy and soy derivative products with infrequent exceptions. I don't think it is worth the hype. It isn't that much better than McDonald's, Burger King, or Wendy's. They do treat their employees better than the other chains, so they have that going for them.
KFC: I have not had it in a long time. I liked Church's better back before I gave up soy products and processed foods.
I have found that in giving up soy and processed foods that my desire to eat fast food has completely waned. I think there are some not so great food additives in them.

This is accurate. Big chains employ local people and are relevant to local economies.
These threads always follow the same path, seemingly.
It's completely unrealistic to expect haute cuisine from FF, or culturally 'accurate' food. I mean...c'mon.
I eat FF maybe 1 or 2x a month at the most. I value cleanliness, cooked to order, decent ingredients, and a variety of options.
I don't ever expect anything comparable to a good sit down joint per se...but OTOH I gotta say there have been plenty of mom-and-pop joints where I've had crappy food. Plenty.
I used to almost get offended when I’d hear someone say that, but then I realized that’s almost exactly how I feel about Chick-fil-A, so I’m probably offending a lot of others. That balances it out, lol.
I don't go bananas over Chick-fil-A, but I do appreciate that their chicken filets and nuggets aren't pressed and formed chicken meat, like most of the other fast food restaurants.
