I noticed pancake mix, Bisquick ect. not available since the Covid-19 stay at home Order 1 month ago I decided to make my own dry pancake mix. Let me tell you it's better than the boxed stuff and I know what is going in it and there is no crud ingredients. The other day I was in the isle where they sell pancake mix to buy maple syrup. One customer was annoyed there was not any pancake mix. I said make your own take 5 minutes, then store it in an air tight container. They were like I can't be bothered and I am not a good cook. How can you screw up pancakes?

I agree it should be the same, and I would make my own as you did if necessary, but to be honest, the Krusteaz instant pancake mix turns out better and fluffier than any I’ve made homemade. Ymmv.

I'm putting all the bills and useless crap that comes in the mail into my food processor and making toilet paper.

I make Aretha Frankenstein pancake mix, but for weeks the store was out of buttermilk. I succumbed to the temptation on BOGO chocolate chip pancake mix, made with water, but they were way too sweet for us, so I was forced to make pancakes from scratch. Such a strain.

Things are looking up. Today I bought buttermilk and scored some Cottonelle.

Yes, I liked the texture, too, but the chocolate chip ones were a mistake.

I don't eat those things now (too fattening), but I have in the past.

You know those things are not really mixes, as such. It's more like they just measured out the flour for you and put it in a box, then added the baking powder/soda for you, and charged you extra for doing that. Same thing w/cake mix.

Ingredients for Bisquick: Enriched Flour Bleached (wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and/or Cottonseed Oil, Leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate), Dextrose, Salt. (translation: Flour, baking soda, salt, a little oil)

For a few pennies, you can use your own flour & baking soda.

I make most things from scratch. It's not nobility, it's food allergies.

I had to find a recipe for hoisin that didn't contain gluten in order to make a Chinese barbecue sauce, which was also home made.

I've never made pancakes from a mix, but I actually hear fairly often from people who can't get pancakes to turn out. I admit, it mystifies me, but there you go; different cooks have trouble with different things.

I make everything from scratch because of food allergies. I even have to mix my own baking powder.

The only thing I miss is white or yellow cake mix. I haven't found a good recipe for those yet.
