This was in the news a lot the past 2 days. A big gamble that they did not even move into the in-between vegetarian first. Vegan right away. This restaurant is a 3-Michelin star restaurant that was ranked as the world's best restaurant in 2017. Not that I buy into such rankings.

I wonder how they'll do. It would certainly help keep food costs down while they try to survive - and they might just hit a vein and get rich.

I've dined there and that's difficult to imagine.

I checked to see if it wasn't an Onion article.

Yawn. However, it has generated a lot of free publicity. Isn't that what it is all about??

It depends upon how many fabulously wealthy vegans there are in the area.

Myself, I might go to a 3 star vegan restaurant to try it out, but unless it is earth shakingly fabulous, it wouldn't be a regular spot to eat. I mean, I love a good vegetable dish, but somehow it just doesn't seem to be worth a lot of money if that's all you get for dinner.

Although, I'm quite happy to eat a vegetable curry, so who knows. It depends upon how good the cook is and how creative.

Wow, this is big news. I just sent it to my mostly-vegan daughter.

There are some good restaurants that do vegan very well. One of my favorites up in Albany had meat-based as well as vegan dishes, and the food was great. Unfortunately, they closed during COVID and now have a new chef, and I think the menu has changed.

I've got two good vegan restaurants near me here in Monmouth County, NJ, but not on the upscale level of Eleven Park Madison. Should be interesting to see how it does.

I only ate there once, lunch, when I worked in the neighborhood.

If you seriously look at vegan food, it's far more complex than just a plate of vegetables. London used to have this excellent vegan buffet restaurant called Tibits. I went there on a weekday, and it was packed with people who looked as if they worked in the neighborhood, and I doubt all of them were vegans. Unfortunately, they closed during the pandemic.

It will be interesting to see if this takes off.

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, but left to fend for myself, I would cook mostly vegetarian food. I don't love meat that much and really don't love cooking it. BUT if I am going to go out for a pricey meal, I prefer to get some meat dish that I would never make for myself. When we went out for our anniversary last month, I had a delicious barbecued short rib sandwich, and my husband had Chilean sea bass--two things I would never in a million years make at home.

I also wonder how many people who are not already vegetarian/vegan would go for an expensive vegan restaurant. So many see dining out to be their chance to get a great steak, seafood, etc.

Daniel Humm is a well-known name so I can see the people who get "chef crushes" going to Eleven Park Madison for just that reason, to see what he created. Humm bought the restaurant from Danny Meyer, an even bigger NYC chef name, so that alone will lure people with fat wallets. They'll want to see what he does against the competition.

$335 (but including tip!) for any dinner, vegan or otherwise, is out of my element, but if somebody else was paying, hey, I'd love to see what was put in front of me.

As far as wanting a good steak goes, it might not be the safest choice, at least not at New York's most famous steakhouse:

Oh, I'd go too, if someone else was paying! I like vegan/vegetarian food. It will be interesting to see how well this restaurant does with its new menu.

As a full omnivore, I love both meat and vegetables. Though I'd never be able to afford those prices it would interesting to taste what could be done with a high end vegan meal.
