I don't particularly care for Tabasco. I don't find it to have any flavor. Of the kinds we can get in the grocery around here, our favorite is Louisiana Hot. You can actually taste the fruitiness of the peppers in it.
Tabasco has successfully marketed their sauce internationally but everything comes from Louisiana. The high price per quart must be all about the branding, the name.
Guess people like it or think they do, I think it's one of the worst hot sauces going and always comes with bad heartburn.
The last time I was in New Orleans - late February 2020, just before everything shut down - Crystal was on every table of every restaurant we were in (which was many - if I ever win the lottery, my first order of business is to set up a monthly flight to New Orleans to eat my way through that city .... and get a trainer).
I did not see Tabasco in any restaurants, at least out on the tables. Perhaps a marketing agreement with restaurants?
I just looked on Amazon and saw one for $27.84 a quart.
We have Tabasco but I could live without it. We have a lot of different hot sauces, from multiple cuisines, and some homemade.
Lots of other options.

There is a lot that goes into the making and aging of Tabasco. It is more of a high end product than most hot sauces and I like it way better than most others.
My favorite is Cholula. But we also use the cheaper crystal or Tapatio when all we want is a bit of heat. The Cholula is more expensive, but has more flavor, and is great for seasoning soups and sauces. Crystal is very watery. I noticed that many restaurants offer you a choice of these two brands.
Tabasco is too overrated for me these days, there are too many hot sauces to choose from. I've got a cabinet of dozens of difference sauces. And some cost more than a bottle of tabasco.
Frank's is a cheaper version of tabasco but I prefer a hot sauce that has multiple peppers than just one type.
The flavor profile of tabasco and Frank's is too plain, that's why Tabasco has released different variety to keep up with the times.
Melinda's make a good line of hot sauces that are very good priced.
We keep some Tabasco around but both my daughter and I make our own rooster spur sauce and it keeps forever. She's had good luck mixing the peppers to create the flavors she wants. I haven't experimented that much but it has more flavor than Tabasco.
If you're ever in Southern Louisiana and are an aficianado drop into Avery island for a visit and a history lesson. It's a beautiful site, fun for a foodie and an opportunity to taste Tabasco soda and ice cream. Yes!
And it's true they are about making good money on their historic name. I agree other brands have more flavor.
If you make your own all you need is a handful of peppers, some salt, vinegar, water, maybe a pinch of sugar. I think the original is just salt-packed peppers fermented by aging.

I just bought some Crystal hot sauce, a common Louisiana brand and I was noticing the price difference in these supermarket Louisiana hot sauces and Tabasco
I like Tabasco but it was just hitting me that price difference. The 12 oz Crystal was $2.99
The small Tabasco is only 2 oz an that was $2.99 also, outrageous. Slighty better deal on the bigger size $42 per quart
instead of $48
trick: add some extra hot pepper powder to the Louisiana and a small pinch of garlic
I don't buy a quart but I buy the 12 oz bottle at my local HEB Plus for $6.16. I didn't see a quart listed on their web page but 32oz in a quart . . . you do the math. Should be around $16. Substantially less. Where are you located, this is in Texas?
