I have 200 guests coming. One of the items I am serving is fruit - the cut up stuff that you get in the big bags . . . 5 lbs bags, actually . . . has grapes, several types of melon, strawberries, etc in it.
So how do I estimate how many pounds to get to serve 200 guests??? Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking . . . okay . . . maybe 6 oz per serving?
I have no clue!!!! Even some other educated guesses would help!!! This event takes place on June 1 and I have 35 lbs. of fruit ( 7 - 5 lb. bags) Is that enuff????
Anifani-depending on what else is on your menu I would think you'd be fine. Knowing me I'd have another couple of bags in the freezer just in case.
Hee Hee - Lacey, we think alike. Actually, how this came up is I wanted 9 bags, and we have 7 . . . and DH says I am out of my tree. I said - well so what - we will use it if we get too much. I would rather over-buy than run out!!!! Just wondered if I am being overly concerned . . .
I think that it depends on what other items are on your menu. If you are planning the fruit to be a major feature, then I would plan about 4 to 6 oz per person. If you are having many side dishes, I would count on about 2 to 3 oz per person. If there are a lot of choices, people tend to take one serving spoon so that they can sample a little of everything. I am with you on having plenty..I always have a lot, and for some reason, when people come to a bash at our house, they always comment about how much food I have..then..they proceed to demolish it!!!

I would take one bag and measure out a serving (like 1 cup or 3/4 cup or whatever). See how many are in one bag, then do the math.
