My ds is a big fan of Gordon Ramsay’s shows, including Master Chef and Kitchen Nightmares. I’d like to get him one of Ramsay’s cookbooks. Does anyone have a recommendation? I think his Home Cooking has the most positive reviews on Amazon, but we are trying to avoid overly complex recipes.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not going to say any of his books are good or bad.

But I would suggest his Youtube Cooking Video Channels as a better option. ex:

You get the man, recipes, how to, without all the FOX fluff.

Recipes aren’t really a big deal, the real deal is in your cooking technique and prep skills. You have to watch Gordon to learn these skills.

You may also want to check out Jacques Pepin's videos and cookbooks. Watching him with a knife or flipping a pan full of food is almost food porn! He regularly posts on FB - the videos are usually only a few minutes long.

You can't give someone YouTube videos as a gift, though. That's the issue. A cookbook is a fine gift.

What makes more $$ sense?

Buying someone a cookbook(s) that may or may not good.

or

Buying someone a nice set of knives, pans, etc. That they can use as they watch their "chef" teach them how to use them.

The easiest way to cook with simple result is to learn how to season, sear, and heat the food properly. You don't need a recipe with 10 ingredients. You just need salt, pepper, good oil, and a hot pan for majority of foods from eggs, fish, steak, and chicken. Once you master the simple techniques then you can get creative by adding acidity, spices, and marinade your food. A lot of people make the mistake of marinating their food and don't know how to properly cook.

Masterclass.com has at least one Gordon Ramsay series.

As I recall, it is quite good.

Usually around the holidays, masterclass.com has a 2 for 1 sale.
