Southerners love it. I don't think there's much difference. Duke's tastes a little sweeter, I think. I prefer Hellmans (aka Best Foods in some areas), probably because it's familiar.
BUT I'm very into kewpie mayo. In chicken, egg, potato, etc salads, I do half kewpie, half hellmans. Hamburgers and sandwiches get all kewpie.
When people ask me what's different about kewpie, I say it's the richness, the mouthfeel; like comparing heavy cream to milk.
Too many condiments in my pantry and refrigerator to list. They are one of the reasons I have three refrigerator/ freezers. For a household of two!
To me, Dukes tastes more lemony. I like it for things like tartar sauce and a sauce I make for fish with lemon juice and tarragon. I bought some kewpie Mayo, but I don’t get the big deal about it. I haven’t tried using it half and half with a domestic kind. I once used a recipe with Kraft Mayo and rice vinegar for potato salad. I’ve always used it for potato salad since.
But since I have no desire to have 3 kinds of Mayo going at once, I use what I have for whatever I’m making. What that really means is whatever kind is BOGO at Publix.
