My dear Mother wants only a good pound cake for her upcoming birthday. She lives 750 miles away. I thought I'd order her one from a retail store and have it shipped. Nonnie Waller's small cake is $75 plus delivery . Bake Me A Wish, which I really like, doesn't have one.

In years past, I've made a decent tasting pound cake, but I'm torn whether to go the homemade route and risk it still being good after shipping or biting the bullet and paying a ridiculous price for something I've never tasted.

She likes the regular traditional pound cake...no almond, lemon, liquor, or exotic ingredients. She might like it with pecans, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

Any suggestions where I can purchase a good pound cake for shipping at a reasonable price?

Any favorite recipes to share?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

is there a way you can check with a local bakery in her town and have it delivered that way. I love my mom a bunch, but if I paid $75 for a cake, she would kill me!

Was just about to say the same thing, especially with the internet available. I order things in London for my sister (who lives there) as gifts all the time.

Ditto on the killing here, too! Local delivery is a great suggestion, but her town is pretty small. I'll check into it... Thank you!
