No SCIENTIFIC evidence... but when I was a server at a major Chain in the Food Industry in WNY (back in college) i can say I hated serving elderly people and youths... I knew I wouldn't make a big tip.
Also- as long as this is about tipping... we had a salad bar there and people seem to think that a salad bar is not as much work...and tip LESS because of it... BUT IT IS MORE work for your server. Think of it this way- if you order one thing off the menu, she puts your order into the computer and brings you your food, checks on you, and clears one plate when you are done. NOW w/ salad bars she still has to puts your order into the computer, still brings you a plate for the salad bar, clears a plate, THEN has to brings another plate, clears that plate, brings another plate, clears... checks back... it is more work and they should be tipped just as well.... just a servers personal feeling on the matter- I hated salad bar diners...especially ones who made PIGS of themselves and ran me ragged then tipped me very little because they felt I didn't do anything for them.
