well, I broke my toe on Sat and I went to the doc today and by the time I got home my foot was swollen. so I had to get my 13 year old beginning cook to make dinner. He put the ham & glaze in the oven, threw some carrots and ranch on the table to snack on while waiting for dinner and warmed up and buttered some leftover rice. It was fine.
Thanks though you guys. Sorry for the question when I didn't even end up using any of the answers.

Oh NO! You take it easy and give that beginner cook of yours a chance to improve his cooking skills while you rest that foot!
What SKBS said - take care, and use your misfortune as the golden opportunity to start teaching that lad how to be self-sufficient in the kitchen. You can get him started with plenty of easy recipes on the "What's for dinner" thread, and see how far he takes it. Who knows, you may be surprised, and that broken toe may turn out to be a real boon in the long run!
But for now, keep it elevated with ice on it, take your pain meds, and let the lad wait on you.
Candied sweet potatoes, pineapple to grill with the marischino cherries..and my mother used to make a great raisin sauce for the ham..
side dish...hmmm mac and cheese ...could be too heavy..
dessert...mango ice or..
and a nice lite white Zin or white Merlot..

HW
