I don't do candy. Many years ago I started buying juice boxes, and I have found that many kids stop by my house half way through trick or treating because they are thirsty and know that they are getting juice.

There was a time I made treats for Trick or Treaters, but I've heard that so many parents throw away anything homemade or not "factory wrapped" that I completely stopped doing that.

Today I would only make them for a party.

When I was a kid (and remember, this was a LONG time ago!), home-made treats were fine. No one was trying to poison us! One lady made pumpkin-shaped cupcakes...totally unwrapped, so you HAD to eat them then and there....delicious!

Nowadays, you can't give out anything that isn't factory sealed...it will just be thrown out, as parents trust no one. Heck...they are out there with the kids! Not so in our day! We left home in our costumes just before dark and stayed out trick or treating until 9pm! No one knew where we were, or worried about us! They knew we'd be back, with so much candy that we could hardly carry it all. Ahhh..those were the days!

What a shame that our kids/grandkids can't experience the fun that we had back then without having to worry.

We go with the mini candy bars and give 3-4 per child.
Last year we ran out about 8:30.

Then another knock on the door. It was a Mother and a girl maybe 8 and a boy maybe age 4.
We did about all we could do, we gave each child a $1 bill and told them to buy the kind of candy they liked. The boy, being so young, quickly threw the dollar on the ground, as if to say:
"what? I don't want this, I want CANDY."
Everyone had a good laugh.

It makes me so sad that I can't give out homemade treats. I'd love to give out candy and caramel apples! Or cookies or popcorn balls. We make treat bags and give those out.

Default What kinds of candy will you be giving out on Halloween?

We don't get many kids where I live because I live on a busy street but I still buy candy anyway. I will be giving out:
Mounds
Reeses Peanut Butter cup
Kit Kat bars

While at Costco yesterday, I strolled the candy aisle in preparation for Halloween. A vendor was stocking candies. I asked him what the number one candy was. Without hesitation, he said "Snickers". I checked the price and have since decided to give out voucher's for free gasoline instead in place of candy.
