Question CookBook Software....

I have hundreds of loose recipes that I would like to put into a searchable format. Is anyone aware of a cookbook program that would allow me to enter my own recipes and create a searchable database?

This is an example of what you are asking about. You need a database program that has a search feature for keywords. Check this out. You can also create your own if you use MS Office with MS Access or have a copy of open office with database.

Ever since I was a personal chef, and still, I use MasterCook. It has its own recipes, but it also allows you to enter or import your own recipes, and search the database for them. It also gives you the nutritional value per serving of recipes if you want it to.

How many recipes could you store in MasterCook?

Oh, goodness, I don't know. Hundreds, maybe thousands. I'd have to check the specs, but I've come nowhere near filling it up.

Just grabbed the software. I have a somewhat older version. It comes with 4,000 recipes already in it, and then you just add your own. You can divide them up into "cookbooks" that you give names to make it easier to keep track of the kinds of recipes. Plus there are some cookbooks already set up if you just want to add to the ones they have.

You can create a grocery list from a selection of recipes, you can search by ingrdient, food type, category, or cooking time. I've barely scratched the surface of it. I don't see anything on here about a limit on the number of recipes, but I'll keep looking.

I just did a google. The current version comes with 7,000 recipes, plus you can add 12,000 of your own per cookbook in an unlimited number of cookbooks.

I have a million recipes, too. Not counting the ones in the couple hundred cookbooks I have. (Professional hazard!) But nowhere near that many that I need to keep track of on a regular basis!

Oh no, these are recipes I have on Word Doc. and Notepad, the books are a separate matter.
I have them on a DVD... but I need a soft for fast tracking... I know where is everything, but sometimes I get lost... and if I can locate by ingredient then is better.
I think I am going for a MasterCook.
Thanks a lot, is better to know an opinion before the purchase.
