Another place for superb pastries, including donuts and genuine classic custard filled bars (YUM!) is Eppler's Bakery on Market St. in downtown San Francisco. Their pecan tarts...OMG.

We have Krispy Kremes in the Dallas, Texas area. Not my favorite though. WAY TOO sccchweeet for me. If they are not "HOT" they are just plain icky and make my teeth hurt something bad.

The best places around here are some of the Southern Maid Donuts stores, Shipley's Donuts and a few indpendent donut places. I love eclairs or "long johns". Shipleys has some AWESOME donuts and they do have the custard filled long johns. Southern Maid have THE BEST glazed when they are warm and hot. GAWD!!! I LOVE DONUTS!!! I swear I can eat an entire box of them and not feel full. Every now and then I get a craving for Dunkin Donuts, their bavarian creme filled donut w/ all of that powdered sugar coating it......... YUM!!!
Have you tried any of the more gourmet or specialty grocery stores or cake bakeries? We have Central Market here and they have all kinds of pastries and baked goodies. We also have a local bakery that makes AWESOME cakes but they have REALLY good donuts and other goodies.

Donuts are my weakness! Always try to find a mom and pop donut shop. Found one in my city, old fashioned and inviting little place. Krispy Kremes are really good, but are too rich, too sweet and always get sick afterwards.

Donuts
Yeh! What ever happen to the old mom and pop bakery's! They would be on every corner in Cincinnati. Boy, could we get wonderful bake goods, coffee cakes, donuts, danish everything you could desire. How I miss that!!!!! Now it's a few premade goods that try to impersonate the real thing in grocery stores. I really have not found any good stuff here in Albuquerque. Does such a thing exist these days? I do know NYC still has Itialan bakery's owned by mom and pop. But it's a long, long way to go.

There are several in my city, but I really had to look for them. There is a wonderful Mexican bakery here also, all kinds of goodies and fresh coffee to go with it!

There are also several really good independent bakeries here in Dallas. Casa Linda, Steins, Cakes by George and a few others I know how to get to but can not remember the name......... lol
