I have never owned a toaster oven and I have never known anyone who has, so I am somewhat doubtful of this appliance's utility!
However the more I think about it the more I think it would be useful to be able to cook something in a countertop oven so I could broil something in the wall oven and cook something else in the toaster oven. (My house has only one oven.)
I'm cooking BBQ chicken in mine right now!
I love my toaster oven...it saves me from using the big oven when I don't need to....that saves money.
I cook everything in it! The only thing I need the big oven for now is turkey on Thanksgiving.
Our daughter just moved into her own apt. She wanted a toaster oven in lieu of a toaster,
She loves it. She can toast plus bake smaller items without having to use the regular oven.
Our kitchen has double ovens and a microwave/convection oven. We have all these "fancy" appliances, but guess what we use almost daily...our toaster oven!
It is especially great in the summer as it does not heat up the house at all.
we use ours a lot! we have gone through many of them..just wore them out. we have one that is rounded in the back and you can actually fit a frozen pizza in it. it is really handy for toasting bagels etc. as they don't get stuck like in a regular toaster. also, it is great in the summer to not have to turn on the big oven. ours is the black and decker model..toaster/broiler oven.
It's just the two of us and we use our toaster oven almost daily. It gets used mostly for toasting bread and baking rolls & muffins. It takes a lot less time to heat up so I think it may save on electricity.
I like toaster ovens, I don't even own a regular toaster. Like everyone has said, they also do save on power and reduce heat. They also preheat very quickly.
Ones with broilers are great for browning small things from the microwave.
