My favorite current "appliance" requires no electricity at all (except the initial boiling of water).

I just got the Zoijurishi Tuff Sports Bottle and it is excellent at keeping hot drinks hot. I've taken this baby out in the cold car for trips and the water was still steaming hot 5-8 hours later. My contigo mug that I bought at Costco only lasts about 2-3 hours (worse in the cold car).

I just love a good wok. I used to have an electric wok and I loved it. Now all I have is a conventional wok....not all that great when I'm using an electric stovetop.
Wow...the meals I used to cook up in that wok! Fantastic item to have!

Over the years I have had many of the gadgets mentioned here. They broke, wore out or whatever and I found that I didn't miss them much. Like one other poster mentioned I like the basics.

My favorite kitchen items are my cast iron skillets.

I'd be unhappy without my slow cooker.

I really love my coffee/tea press. I never use my coffee maker now, it's just a big ugly paper weight. The press makes much better coffee and is easier and quicker to clean. I just set the kettle to boil, put some whole beans in my coffee grinder, pulse a few times, and put them in the press. A lot of times I'll add a Ceylon cinnamon stick, some vanilla, cardamom seeds, a few cloves, or whatever sounds good and then pour the hot water over it. Wait a few minutes then press and pour. I love the froth on the top of the coffee. It's great for tea too.

I like my molcajete y tejolote a lot too which I use to make salsas and pastes. The texture is a lot better than with a blender or food processor. You can also put meat and vegetables or other stuff in it and bake it in the oven.

And my food processor, stick blender, and spice grinder are invaluable as well.

The key with kitchen appliances, and I cannot stress this enough (ok, I probably could), is to pay the extra money for the quality one the first time. If not, you'll learn the hard way and wish you had when you buy some cheap piece of junk that doesn't work properly and breaks down quickly. Good appliances are an investment.

I love cooking with my clay Tagine. For outdoor cooking I love my La Caja China and OK Joe offset BBQ.

I too love my cast iron skillets but certainly there are actually appliances I like as well and would be lost without. Yes, my griddler, which I have mentioned, as well as a slow cooker and my toaster oven. I have no idea how much I save on electricity by using the toaster over most of the time. We rarely use the oven unless we are having a large crowd.
