My mom always made us a meatball soup and popovers on Christmas eve - it was just the 3 of us. However, it seems that Italian is quite popular as a Christmas Eve dinner. I like the idea of a simple homemade soup and bread - a lighter meal since Christmas Day is usually a feasting day.
