My kids are under the weather so we can't go anywhere so I've been home caring for them and cooking different things today. I made tortilla soup and have french bread in the bread machine. I also have dough for cinnamon rolls rising. I plan to cook some carne guisada in a bit, too. I just woke up wanting to cook, cook, cook. Anyone else feel like doing that sometimes?

That was me last weekend. I slow-roasted tomatoes, made a spicy orange marmalade, sauteed some mushrooms and onions with port and herbs, made a meat sauce, and also some biscuits.

Yes! Today was one of those days for us. It's really windy outside so we decided to stay indoors. I boiled a whole chicken for enchiladas later in the week as well as a rich broth for soup later and made some Italian meatballs with sauce and I'm cooking up a rib eye roast, asparagus and a Waldorf salad for dinner!

I enjoy cooking, but I so seldom get to spend a lot of time doing it.

Years ago when the kids were home and I worked I would spend Sunday just cooking, prepping so the week would be easier.

In the winter there's nothing better than great food smells for comfort.

I get in those moods every once in a while. I'll be in the house for the day and decide to make soup. And while I'm standing around during the lull, I figure that I can make quick bread or biscuits, and wouldn't it be nice to have a dessert. Maybe I can squeeze in one quick jar of refrig. pickles from the cucumber and peppers in the crisper.

Yes!

I like to start with bread or a pie crust in the morning. Work on a long slow sauce or soup. Whip up a dressing for salad. Roast some veggies in the oven or assemble a casserole...and then pull it all together for the evening meal.
Fun!

When there are no pressing matters to attend to that can be a fun way to spend the day, especially if there is enough variety in the cupboard and refrigerator to see what can be made with whatever's on hand.

Totally~

When I worked Mon to Fri I used to spend one day on the weekend just cooking for the week.

Now I do a LOT of shift work so it doesn't seem to work out that way anymore.

Absolutely. I just made tortilla soup yesterday also. DS favorite meal. DD came home for the weekend with friends so besides the tortilla soup, today made the beef brisket from Richard on Top Chef last seaon - very good. Also, with 4 girls in the house HAD to have chocolate so made brownies. Tomorrow eggs made to order for everyone. Whew. I'll have cooked all weekend - wouldn't want to do it every weekend but I love having a full house and appreciative people eating it (can't get much more appreciative than teenage boys and several kids living in dorms!)
