My fondest, warmest memories come from the special meals my grandmother used to make me. Simple stuff that still puts a smile on my face and makes me feel good. Favorites include:

* baked custard (in the oven with nutmeg on top)
* tapioca pudding
* cream chipped beef on top of toast (for breakfast)
* meatloaf
* scallop potatoes

What did your grandmother make that was special to you?

My mom used to make that in little custard cups. I have only one of them now. My Grandmother used to make the best bread pudding. With large pieces of bread including crust, some of which would poke out and get browned on top. It was moist and rich and buttery and sweet I have the pan she used.

The one thing she made special was a chocolate ganache over angel food cake.

My maternal grandmother made two really great things when I was a kid, and they still stick out in my mind today. She used to make a great pecan pie like nobody else can. The other thing was the best fried chicken that, to this day, I have ever tasted. Try as I may or anyone else, it cannot be duplicated.

my german grandmother made this very delicious beef tongue in a kind of brine that she scooped over dumplings. she called it lingle (spelling?) my dad could make it also and he did occasionally. he asked me what i wanted for my 16th birthday dinner and i said lingle. he laughed and said he didn't think too many 16 year olds would ask to have tongue for their birthday dinner!! unfortunately, later in life he couldn't find the recipe and he couldn't remember how to make this, so i can't make it

My grandma used to make us High Tea in the English style, but with her own crazy versions of things - there were the traditional cucumber and fish-paste sandwiches of course, but she also made delicious Currant Bags (sugar and currants in a little pastry parcel) and the centrepiece was always a chocolate blancmange rabbit in a field of grass (chopped green jelly/jello) with flowers dotted around (chocolate M&Ms/Smarties).

She must have spent all day making it all, and we absolutely loved it!

My grandma on my mom's side: ham balls and moonbeams (almond crescent shaped cookies)

My grandpa on my dad's side: he made the best mushroom and beef "gravy" ever.
