The Whole Foods at Mayo & Scottsdale has the gelato by the chocolate covered goodies and chocolate fountain. That is some totally dangerous retail square footage lol! I live at Desert Club-across the street so I can walk there. I don't remember if the Whole Foods at Shea & Tatum has the gelato-it's been a while since I've been in that one. (And I suspect they are none too excited with Trader Joes literally opening right at their front door.)

There is a new Whole Foods near the Cine Capri, is that the one you are talking about? I haven't been in that one. I don't care much for Trader Joes and the Trader Joes near Whole Foods is in such a horrible location.

This is going to sound stupid but what is the difference between Gelato and Ice-Cream ?

I have had Gelato in a Gelateria ( ie ice-cream) in Italy and it is the same as Ice Cream in France, Spain, the UK etc... at least if you go for the decent "home-made " stuff ?!

Here you go, moosie:

Ice Cream vs. Gelato

It needs less fat to be creamy (gelato) because it has no air in it, basically.

Thanks, I guess I've been lucky and only had mostly Gelato though I have always called it ice cream ! I don't eat much sweet stuff so always go for the artisanal "ice cream" anyway as the flavours are so much more intense than mass produced stuff. I love Sorbets too though. Much lighter and not so cloying.

I learn something new every day on this forum, it's fantastic. I have yet to try Velveeta ,string cheese or miracle whip for example ( can't say it appeals much though ) but it's on my list of "must try" next time I'm in the US ( this fall).

And despite spending 2 months in the South I never had grits either. I am paying very close attention to all the threads making a list of things to look out for... By the time I am finished I am just be a bit more rounded both gastronomically and shape-wise...

Thanks for that link, Debsi. I was wondering the same thing as Moosketeer.

Well, gelato has milk, so I'd better steer clear. Already knew true sorbets are milk-free, but sherbets are not.

I went to the Gelato Spot- the Gelato is very good but I can't taste the difference between Gelato and Ice Cream. Seems Gelato is more expensive to buy then Ice Cream is though. Got the gift card too
