I just finished a horrific story in Nat'l Geographic on the North Koreans, being so hungry so many times, they resign themselves to eating grass and getting sick eating it.

Are there certain strains of grass that are more edible and nutritious than others? Kentucky Bluegrass, Bermuda, etc.?

And do you know of anyone that has actually cooked with grass, knew recipes where it was anywhere near tasty?

I'm sure there have been times in our own country, with extreme poverty, that people have resorted to this as well.

I'm just curious, that's all.

I recall reading somewhere that humans can't absorb the cellulose in grass, so during a famine, people might eat grass to put something in their stomachs, but they might not be getting many calories (or that much nutrition) from it.

Default Interesting article!

One never knows these days, with the tanking economy, that we might end up so poor, like the North Koreans, that grass might be an option to keep us alive.

I'm sure the North Koreans aren't the only ones who've resorted to eating grass, over the years, and there's so many strains of grass.

There's times I've been places where the grass was so fine and luxuriant, I wanted to get down on all 4's and start eating it like a cow. It looked delicious enough to eat.

I've heard about some special brownies that are baked with grass, but I think the grass is a special kind of grass. I guess that's what makes the brownies special too.

I've never eaten grass intentionally but have wound up with a lot in my mouth after being tackled, pushed down, etc.
