I'm adopting from Ethiopia too so I'm trying out the local DC and Northern Virginia restaurants. I even tried cooking doro wat. My injera was a hot mess. LOL I found the food at the restaurant closest to me to be a bit bland and dry. My doro wat was much better than theirs. I've also tried the large platter at Dukem in DC (as shown in photo). I don't crave the food yet, but I really like injera.
Injera bread is great. It's tangy, and goes well with a lot of things. I like vegetarian Ethiopian with medium spice. I think my diet is better balanced by eating from a variety plate. Vegas has several Ethiopian restaurants. The coffee ceremony is fun to see. I like to try offbeat meals. Vegetarian, of course. (well, Tiramisu has dairy, but...the cow still gets around)
I cook a lot of Ethiopian and other African dishes, but the bread is hard to make. I usually use a cornmeal mush to serve with it. I've never been in Ethiopia, but I had some wonderful home-cooked meals in Sudan.
