Here in Ohio, everyone seems to make pork and sauerkraut on New Years day. I don't know why. We aren't really into that and are more likely to have something like a huge breakfast and something that can just stay on the stove all afternoon like chili or stew.
After the holidays, we get tired of a lot of heavy food, and tend to be in cereal and salad mode by New Year's.

I don't normally eat meat, and I'm not typically a fan of Southern food... but seriously awesome fried chicken is, well, really good. Although I do peel off the skin... ha.
