I am making a jello salad for Thanksgiving, a recipe I think sounds good. It's chunky cranberry sauce, canned pineapple, and chopped apple in raspberry jello. It says right on the box not to use fresh or frozen pineapple, but is canned OK? Will it just need longer to set?

I know some people hate jello, but we like it.

It's my understanding that pineapple, canned or fresh has so much acid in it that Jell-o won't set up.

Canned will work. Just make sure to drain it well.

Julia, I put canned pineapple in jelly (jello) all the time but as others have said drain it well and I also put just a smidgeon less hot water in when I'm making up the jelly. It seems to help with the setting process.

It's a sin to not like Jello. When I was young I used to make it and then drink most of it while it was steaming hot Yum!

Thank you all so much! Jello salads are a staple of our holiday get-togethers, and I wanted to try something new. Now that I live in the midwest, there are more options too. Pineapple jello! Apricot jello! Never saw those in California.

What would green jello be like with raspberries in it?
