Thanks, for some reason I thought there was a difference between "rolled oats" and regular oatmeal.

Have you ever eaten groats? It is pinhead oatmeal, the oatmeal before it gets flattened into what we know as "Quaker Oats". We cook it overnight in a small crockpot and it is wonderful. It's cheap bought in bulk and it only takes a little bit to make a lot!
Love steel cut oats, which are groats cut into two or three pieces.

The best way to eat them IMHO is plain. I cannot imagine ruining them with sugar or milk. Yeech

Rolled oats are too slimy for me. I am more of a texture person than a flavor person and I love a good old fashioned chew.

I was buying it at Stater Bros a few years ago. Then I got tired of it.

Brown sugar and a handful of dried cranberries. The oatmeal has to be made with old-fashioned oats, though. I don't like the texture of quick oats.

a spoon.

If I want flavored oatmeal, I buy it that way. I like apples and cinnamon and maple and brown sugar varieties.

I don't care for warm sweet cereals, like rice, oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. I didn't learn to like rice until I met my husband, who grew up in rice country - Arkansas. I like them all with butter and salt. Same with grits.

As to the specific question - I put ham and mushrooms in my oatmeal. Strange, huh?

Peanut butter and brown sugar. Me and the boyfriend make our 'special' oatmeal with almond butter, a bit of brown sugar and honey and cut up bananas.

Sooooo good.
