rainroosty- Chopped liver?? The only liver I liked was liver pate from the famous Bistro Laurent Tourondel Steakhouse in DC. It was fabulous... but I doubt I can make liver edible myself.

Moonlady- If you get the recipe, please feel free to share unless it's a family secret!

Houston3- I went ahead a tried mustard today, didn't exactly float my boat... but it's probably because I for one have never been a fan of mustard. Maybe a different condiment next time. =)

juniperbleu- I CANNOT AGREE MORE. I had to write it in all caps because of my urgent need to emphasize that. I have yet to find anything that cannot be made better with melted cheese! Although I haven't tried it on ice cream yet...

My faves would be the obvious I guess, Hummus or the BabaGanoush (sp?)

I had a friend many years ago that if you just said mustard he'd get sick... He wouldn't go into a room if he could see it on a table...LOL

That sounds like a roommate I had in college who insisted she could smell raw celery from across the room. When our friend would eat a stalk she'd run out of the room (I hate celery too, but c'mon...)

Spinach hummus, garlic hummus, and cracked red pepper hummus.

Having a nice kebab to throw in doesn't hurt either.

Delicious!

These are all great ideas! I've never tried hummus, but I've been wanting to. Hummus is such a strange sounding name, it's always put me off a bit, I guess.

For our Thanksgiving appetizer, I made spinach and artichoke dip, and served it with Trader Joe's pita chips and veggies. I think any kind of creamy dip goes well with pita chips.

Here's a great story about introducing hummus to a friend of ours who's not a very adventurous eater. I was trying to explain hummus - I told him it was a combination of things like chick peas, olive oil and tahini. He just stared at me like I was talking Greek. My husband looked at his bewilderment and said "Dude, it's a bean dip"! His face brightened and he said "OK!" and proceeded to eat it and like it. So...don't think of it as hummus, think of it as a bean dip!

That's so funny you should say that---I've seen so many posts here about hummus, that I did look it up awhile ago, to see what all the rave was about. I'd always incorrectly assumed it must have unusual ingredients that I probably hadn't even heard of. So when I found various recipes, my exact response was, "oh, it's just a bean dip!". It does sound good though, I'm thinking of making some for our Christmas appetizer.
