For dinner tonight we had pupusas! One of my El Salvadorian student's mom made them stuffed with a fresh queso blanco cheese:

Pupusa - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

She had made them for our class holiday party & now I am hooked. Anyone else who has had pupusas or better yet, made them?

Now I have found out we actually have a pupusa restaurant up here in Anchorage; I had never even hear of them before last month.

Yum!!

I had a coworker of Salvadoran descent a couple of years ago, and he was always raving about pupusas...he told me about a local hole in the wall Salvadoran restaurant (not incredibly common here), but I've yet to try it. I'll get there someday...they sound like something I'd love.

We have a Folklife Festival that has a pupusa booth every year, I like them! They taste like a gordita to me.

The TACO CABANA locations here had a pupusa promotion a while back, but they were not very good.

Love them also. Used to get them in Northern Virginia all the time - tons of little pupuserias and carts around there. Did she make the pickled cabbage slaw with hot sauce to have with them? It's terrific too.

Yeah- cabbage slaw & sauce, but the sauce was not hot- it tasted more like tomato soup. But I ate them plain with cabbage on the side since it was the cheese that was so unique from a local hispanic market.

The difference is that a gordita is made/cooked then stuffed, a papusa is filled then cooked...

These are so delicious! A coworker brought them in one day. We ate them with the tomato sauce and the cabbage. They didn't look like much to see first hand, but they were scrumptious!

I thought they'd taste like flour tortillas, but I was very wrong! I suggest everyone try them if they have an opportunity to do so.

in Mexico pupusas are corn dough filled with beans and cheese then grilled...

.................................................. .................

Gorditas are thick corn dough tortilla type breads that are cooked, split, and filled with meats, cheeses, and lettuce-tomato-onion
