Energy Drinks
I looked around, (not precisely though) and found no threads on energy drinks but wanted to start a poll and discussion on energy drinks.
Indeed, they are addictive. I first tried Red Bull years back. I like them but then became a fan of SoBe No Fear and now I totally prefer Lo-Carb Monster energy drinks. There's a new energy drink called Lost (also by Hansen) but to me it tastes extremely close, almost identical, to Monster. When paying attention to the flavors and comparing, Monster is still better in flavor. More refined.
I haven't branched out to try any other and new brands of drinks...other than Rockstar (I think) and I thought the taste was nasty. It was in a white can and the flavor had a disgusting heavy protein taste to it.
What are your favorite energy drinks (if they aren't listed in the poll choices) and why?
Which energy drinks do you dislike?
Any negative effects from regularly drinking energy drinks?
How quickly do they affect your system?
For me, it seems that they work 1-3 hours after drinking. Although the Lo-Carb Monster has the same supplement dosages as the regular, my boyfriend mentioned that the regular works better for him in energizing him right away or for longer periods of time.

Sometimes I will drink a regular Monster an hour before I go out running or to work out in the morning. Whew! Talk about a quick pick-me-up! I have tried Red Bull, but was not too crazy about it as some people I know are. I do not drink them regularly, but will use it for some fuel from time to time when I do not exactly feel like working out - (since I do not drink coffee).

I don't do caffeine well at all. If I feel sluggish, my body is telling me I'm dehydrated, so I double up on water. I think stores should ban all energy drinks to kids under 18. I also read that daily consumptions of energy, over time, is bad for your kidneys.

I recently discovered something called (don't laugh) Enviga, Coca-Cola makes it. It is sparkling green tea, sweetened. I treat myself to a can whenever my Jeep needs fuel. I can't find it anywhere else.

I agree that energy drinks should be barred from selling to individuals under 18...perhaps it might be based on how strong or high some of the ingredient dosages are in the drink in order to quality for a purchase status with age restriction.
For awhile I had stopped drinking energy drinks so often because I read somewhere that frequent consumption might break down tooth enamel. Having several a day is definitely too much if the size of the can is around 16-24 fluid ounces. I am thinking that full sugared energy drinks are worse for the tooth enamel and personally I just prefer the taste of Monster Lo-Carb over the regular. Due to the tooth enamel info, I (just in case), brush my teeth soon after having one and try to drink with a straw whenever I can...and I do try to drink less often. I'd say around 1-2 a week currently.
Admittedly, they can be an addiction (due to taste and wired energy boost sensation) and I also know they temporarily increase blood pressure.
But I feel in moderation they are OK.

I have never tried any of those drinks. I clicked on this thread planning to vote for Gatorade, but apparently that isn't the kind of energy drink you're talking about!

I drink FRS drinks. They sell them at Whole Foods, they're full of antioxidants. I won't drink anything else.

most energy drinks are about as effective as a 20 oz mountain dew. most of them are either underdosed (due to cost), or are afraid to use great stimulants due to the cost of finding a way to flavor stuff (many good stimulants taste horrible).
i would strongly recommend ergopharm clearshot. it's the liquid version of their product AMP which has recieved excellent reviews. Ergopharm - Performance Nutrition Technology
