Why do they sell not so good produce for the same price as if they were in good condition? This is really annoying. I bought some grape tomatoes and they cost $4. I couldn`t use most of them. This happens all the time in the produce dept. Ex;they sell onions that are bad for the same price they would sell good onions.

Was it clear to you that the tomatoes mostly weren't good? If not, how would you expect the grocery store to know? If so, why did you buy them?

I have examined those plastic containers from all sides and come home with bad ones.

Avocadoes-touch and so soft-just leave them-why do the leave them out?

I always purchase from the back-never the front.

They were in a package and looked fine.... Ah lets see, it is a grocery store and that is what they are suppose to know by checking there products to make sure they are fresh.

sadly--it's cause they are greedy, don't actually care about what they sell, as showes in the fact that it's already prepackaged before they even get it. the people who work there are not going to go through each container--and guess what people STILL buy them!!!
you know why the stores still carry this stuff that goes bad---cause we STILL buy it--and so their number crunchers say "hey, people LOVE this stuff"....
if we start to complain, STOP buying it and start buying the loose fresh stuff only--that is what they will start to carry and sell to us.

If I can help it, I don`t buy bad produce. I go for as fresh as possible. It tastes much better.

When I lived in town (and gas was cheaper!), I'd hop back in the car and take it back to the manager of the store for a refund.

Now, since I'm quite far from town, I won't buy things in a package - only loose produce. Preferably from roadside stands but that isn't always possible.

Exclamation Bad produce...

Years ago I worked for Safeway, and every day the produce was pulled and "reworked" that is old, bad throw out and the wet rack, i.e. lettuce etc. was re trimmed etc.
The "drys" potatoes, tomatoes, etc,. were culled out for the old soft stuff and discarded,
Bananas when they started getting a little tired, were put in a bad and the price reduced.

NOW...Walmart just puts the produce out and when new stuff comes in they put the new in and old on top,,,,I have seen this done....

Some "high" quality stores still go over their produce.

The cost of labor is more than then the cost of the produce..

Just throw it away...

Buying produce is becoming a science,,,,should have a class in it in high school..

HW....GROWING MY OWN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...

If you like fresh produce, I recommend buying it somewhere other than the supermarket.
