Unusual restaurants in your area
Can any unusual cuisines be found in restaurants in your area?
None really here in Duluth - we have the usual, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, Mexican, etc. But in the Twin Cities area (the nearest major metro) has (for the more unusual choices) Afghan, Nigerian, Ghanan, Ugandan, French North African, Kurdish, Persian, Nepali, Scandinavian, and a large (but variable) number of Somali establishments, which from what I've heard (haven't tried them, but plan on it!) often separate men and women's dining areas and don't have menus. In addition there's what might be the country's only Ethiopian - Malaysian restaurant, "Singapore!".

We had a fruitarian restaurant here a few years ago but being a small town, it did not have enough customers to sustain more than a few months.

There is a Bulgarian place in NJ which is very good, you don't see too many of those.
And an EXCELLENT Burmese place in Philly. Those are very rare, I think there is only one in all of Philly and one in all of Manhattan.
Around here Etheopian and Malasyian are not rare. There are actually way too many Malasyian places and I know of a few Etheopian in both Philly and nYC.

Not really close to me but 3 hours away on Captiva Island, FL a place called the The Bubble Room Restaurant index
They serve normal food but what makes them unique is their desserts and their decor.

OMG! The Bubble Room! I used to frequent the one in Maitland, FL all the time - I think it's closed now. They had awesome cheese covered potato chips (I think that's what it was)....I also think a Chuckie movie was filmed in part there - it was so kitchy! Good times, good times....

I remember the good old days in the 1960s and the only places to eat in my home town of 40,000 people were old fashioned American food. When pizza and tacos came in, people were shocked, it was the talk of the town. How things have changed.

Ok, for us around here it is Pal's Sudden Service. It's been around since the 50's and I used to take my report card there and for each "A" I got a free hamburger and they stamped my report card! LOL They are drive thru only and it's just one of those memorable type places. You've got to see a pic of one of their locations to get a clue on their off the wall originality. Don't be fooled though, they have won the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award and the Tennessee Quality Award! Pal's Sudden Service - Great Food in a Flash

Hmmm...there is this restaurant here in LA (in Hollywood to be specific), where everything is served in the dark and all of the servers are blind/visually impaired.
The restaurant is named Opaque
I've never been, but it seems quite intriguing.

There is a damn vegan restaurant in my neighborhood now. Took over a perfectly good southern burger place. This place was a land mark, had been in the neighborhood for 50 years!
