Slice an onion, coat it with egg and then seasoned bread crums and nuke for about 3-5 minutes. Its not quite as "pretty" as your usual onion rings but its very palatable if you're craving rings
The only other thing I cook in the mic is Roasted potatoes. Teriaki sauce gives it a color that looks like they are roasted. My neighbor had made them for dinner one night and I had to have the recipie.
5 med red potatoes cut up skin on
1/4 cup of teriaki sauce
1 tbsp of butter
pepper to taste
red pepper flakes for taste
a dash of garlic powder
sprinkel with oregano for color
Microwave on high for 7 minutes covered. Stir. Continue cooking for an additional 7-8 minutes on high covered.
I don't have a stove or oven so what I do cook ends up on the grill or in the microwave.
I bought a plastic microwave cooker and put in a chicken splashed with different salad dressings, 6 mins per pound, and it comes out great. I've recently bagged up all that type of cookware in favor of corning ware due to recent warnings about dioxin.
Aside from popcorn, "tv" dinners, and heating up your coffee, do you actually cook anything in your microwave?
Like mini-cakes or rice crispie treats?
Recipes appreciated!
Pasta. I put in a bowl of water and heat it for about 8 minutes. Then toss in the pasta being sure it is completely submerged. Another 8 minutes then drain and toss with olive oil, salt and black or crushed red pepper, no sauce. It may be hard to believe but it is better then when made on the top of the stove. I make rice in the microwave as well.
I cook eggs. I eat egg whites, so I just pop em in and they come out in a perfect circle for my homemade egg sandwich on a whole wheat bagel for breakfast.
I've always had a microwave but the only thing I really use it for (almost daily) is to warm plates. 35 sec. on high. Can't put hot food on a cold plate! I did make a bag of popcorn in it last year though.
