The acoustics in most of the popular chain restaurants are horrible. I prefer a happy medium. I don't want it empty and dead quiet but not so loud that I can't hear the people I'm with.
In my hometown most of the nice family restaurants I remember growing up that use to serve steak. prime rib, roast beef and ham have gone out of business. They have been replaced with chain restaurants designed for the young hip folks. Standard American cuisine has been replaced with hip chief inspired food. But perhaps the most significant change is the energy level in these new restaurants. The music is incredibly loud and the building is constructed to make noise echo around the place.
What do you think of these loud busy restaurants? Do you like the high energy and the loud hip music? Or a quiet place with just a handful of tables?
I definitely wouldn't like the idea of a restaurant with only steak, ham, roast beef, and prime rib on the menu! Those are dull, expensive foods. However, I certainly don't like chain places with loud music (and there are many of them). I have trouble having a conversation in many of them because the ambient noise level is so high. My preference is a nice, quiet, not-so-busy ethnic restaurant, especially if I'm the only "white bread" person around or if everyone is speaking in a foreign language.
I always go to small ethnic restaurants, I tend to make things like that in my routine to the point where they know me. I like going to a place and they know what I will eat before I order.
Small and intimate. I hate noise and loud places , especially when I am eating out which to me is one of the great social interactions . If I can't talk to my friends and hubby what is the point of going out ???
I agree. a place you can actually carry on a conversation without going deaf.
