Not sure if I should post this here or in health, but ...

I make home-made pizza regularly. I normally sprinkle a small bit of cheese on (but not very much). I put some on today, cooked the pizza, and ate it, only to notice afterwards that there was some mold in the bag of shredded cheese.

Should I be worried? Or am I probably OK?

There wasn't any mold on the cheese that I sprinkled on the pizza to my knowledge, but this is wet, shredded cheese, so it could still theoretically be contaminated. Would cooking it at 450 degrees killing anything in it? Would trace amounts likely do me harm?

Have your stomach pumped immediately! (It will give you room for more pizza)

I eat moldy cheese all the time.....usually in a salad dressing. Don't worry about it.

Mold on cheese is not a bad thing. In the future just cut if off and use the rest of the cheese.

I think mold on processed cheese isn't a good thing. Natural, aged artisanal cheeses often have mold to give them that fermented sweaty "character" (either innoculated with commercial strains or sometimes natural spores) but it's done in a controlled environment. Not all mold is tasty & with improper storage harmful bacteria like botulinum & salmonella can grow & cause stomach problems.

There are all kinds of molds, and they taste different. As far as I know, they are not harmful, except maybe on meat products. As my mother used to say, "You have to learn to like it". Taste it first and see if you like it, and if you don't, then scrape it off.

If it weren't for mold, blue cheese wouldn't have those blue parts.

Since you lived to post your question, obviously it's OK. and generally a little mold is no big deal. . In the future, just discard the moldy parts and use the rest.

You probably breath in mold spores on a daily basis--particularly if you live in a humid climate.

The fact is we have evolved to live with microbes. Only a small percentage of them are serious health threats.
