It depends on matchups. There was a stretch there for years (late 80s into the 90s) that most Super Bowls were blowouts while the conference championships were more interesting games. But either way, the Super Bowl is the one with the new, expensive commercials.

There are a lot of people who watch the Super Bowl for commercials, which puts it in a rather unique place in television programming that transcends the sport entirely.

Oops. I was thinking of ATTENDING the game rather than watching on TV. For watching on TV, I'd pick the Superbowl any year, but for being there live, I'd pick a conference championship game. With that you've got more fans rooting for your team (assuming it's a home game), and more fans who know what's going on.

I've only attended one Superbowl, but what I came away thinking was that few spectators were football fans. It seemed most were just there because it was a major event. The crowd noise was non-existent. Conference championships have the home team fan base pumped up and rockin the stadium.

Last nights game would have made a great conference game with the Pats and Colts, but put the winner of that game against the Saints or Vikings, and HOLLY CRAP, what a great SUPERbowl that would be.

Conference games are usually more exciting, and don't seem to go on as long. I remember the "Drive" with John Elways Denver Broncos against Bernie Cosar of the Browns, what a fantastic finish, unless of course you were a Browns fan.

My favorite conference game was 49ers vs Dallas at Candlestick. 49ers won that game and destroyed the Chargers in the SB.

Best SB was 49ers vs Bengals. Taylor catching the winning TD.

maybe, I loved that one, but what about GB VS Denver Superbowl 32, your speaking of SB 23 (23 VS 32)

I knew once Doug Evans got called for defensive holding on third down to let Elway extend that first drive to a touchdown, then Favre following it up with a pick to set up another Denver TD - it was gonna be a long night for the Pack.

had drama on the denver side, Elways fist chance at a SB, Elways Helecopter move, Terrell Davis with his terrible headaches on the side. Didnt hear much about the GB side.

SB 23, Bengles were a better that year, but 49ers know how to win SBs
