I love the elegant look of the Fusion (especially the grill) as well the neat features in the interior. However my family's last experience with a Ford was terrible (It was a Mercury back in the late 80s when I was a kid). The car kept on having repair needs to the point we swore off Fords till now. Has Ford finally resolved its problems or more specifically is the Fusion a reliable car that will last awhile?
I hear the grills are reliable pretty reliable. Sorry, couldn't resist. The Fusions been at the top of the reliability pile for awhile now, although with new models there's always the potential for first year quirks.
my mom might get one. It seems like a nice car, try to persuade her to get one. I've driven an old model a few times, I liked it. My dad thinks it (170 horsepower old model) was underpowered but I thought it was fine.
Consumer Reports loves the hybrid, but the non-hybrid rates so-so. On it's "Brand Report Card" which rates the car makers overall based on average road test score of all vehicles and predicted reliability, Ford scored 51 (Lexus scored highest at 79). The summary was "Newer (Ford) models drive like European sports sedans, but they're let down by unreliable and complex controls and so-so fuel economy. Hybrid technology is impressive". They hate the MyFord Touch controls, calling them overly complicated, cumbersome to use and potentially distracting, and found "numerous electronic glitches and system crashes" in their tests.
The Fusion has been a very reliable car since its debut in 2005. You would be very short sighted to not get a Fusion because of a car you had in the 80s. In regards to My Ford Touch, obviously it's not as bad as some reviewers have said or hundreds of thousands of buyers would have bought something else. It's a matter of how technologically inclined you are. My dad was considering one, but has decided to get a Taurus instead.
Comparing a 2013 anything to what any manufacturer made in the 1980's is definately apples to oranges.
Fusions are fine cars and IMO, drive very well when compared to it's class (although I think the 2.0L ecotec is a little sluggish compared to the high output engines in some competitors).
If you like it, buy one and enjoy!
