Where did you get the ATP data? Just curious if it includes trucks (like F150 and F250). If it does it will skew the data.
of course it includes trucks. ATP includes all vehicles sold by each manufacurer. true data and kbb are the most trusted sources with this data but other firms do the same analysis.
and yes Ford's trucks do scew the data, the same way Lexus or Acura models skew the Japanese ATP.
However, Ford's passemger cars are at the top of their classes in their own right: "Fusion also has been selling from dealer lots faster and at higher prices than Camry and Honda Motor Co.’s Accord"
The Fusion has a far more pleasing appearance than either of those options and costs little more than a Focus if you add the options to the Focus that come standard with the Fusion, you are basically even in purchase price.
I don't like the way the front ends of most Ford vehicles look. The Focus is one of the few that looks ok.

When the 2013 Escape came out I didn't like it, but I think it was just because it was such a drastic change from the 2012 and earlier models. Now we have a 2014 and really like the look. The fusion looks like they are trying to copy the Aston Martin.

The ATP for Ford should be high since the sell so many F150s.
I actually think the Fusion is nice buy in budget form. Most of my peers in Suburbia have a Honda Odyssey and some type of SUV. Young parents aren't buying cars, at least in my area. It is all minivans and SUVs.
Ford has a higher markup, but....MSRP is just that, suggested. Ford offers many more incentives, better financing, and if you are a shrewd buyer, you can negotiate a great price. I've never paid sticker for a Ford, always 10% below MSRP if not more, with great financing, usually 0.0%. Now I'm not sure of the quality comparisons....but warranty, and other incidentals are identical.

I recently bought a new 2016 Escape Titanium with the 2.0L engine. No negotiating. I scoped the local dealers' web pages where they show their discounted prices. Its MSRP was $33k, advertised for sale at $27k with two or three different discounts/credits. The dealer discounts varied widely within each dealer's stock of the same models. The salesman said he didn't know why.
I also looked at Honda, Toyota and Nissan crossovers, and the Escape seemed like the best deal for the money. Maybe I needed to negotiate better prices for them.
It's not only the purchase price, service is also quite expensive. The dealer in my nearest area wanted $100 for a full synthetic oil change, and that was after they turned me away on Saturday because they were all booked up! And that's just the beginning, I've been quoted $1,000 for 60k mile service. Since mine is long out of warranty I have been using a good third-party ASE Ford specialist for all my major service, the same way that some of my neighbors might go to an indie shop for their BMW or Mercedes. I can tell you one thing, there's nothing like that around here for GM or Mopar, and it's not because no one owns GM or Mopar. It's because Ford service and parts are routinely marked up into the stratosphere.
There are some Fords that are designed in such a way that they generate high labor costs on repairs, whether intentionally or unintentionally. I've got an uncle who runs an indie repair shop, and when my Dad started to look at compact/small SUVs, uncle noted how the Escapes help keep him in greens fees because some of their more common issues required him to move around the engine to fix them.

Our dealer charges us $39.95 on the Escape for "The Works" which includes the synthetic blend oil change and filter, brake inspection, checking and topping up all other fluids.

"The Works" includes a synthetic blend. If I want a full synthetic my dealer charges $100 for the same service.
